The invention concerns a polymeric antimicrobial composition, a method of producing the same and the uses thereof. The ionomer composition comprises an amine functional polymer compound reacted with silver halide, optionally together with a stabilizing component, such as an organic substance carrying a sulfonamide functional group. The ionomer composition can be obtained by reacting together (i) at least one polyamine and silver halide and optionally at least one organic stabilizer substance or (ii) at least one polyamine, at least one non-halide silver salt or silver complex, hydrogen halide and/or alkaline metal halide salt and optionally at least one organic stabilizer substance. The present ionomer composition is suitable for use as an antimicrobial coating, antimicrobial finish, antimicrobial additive and as antimicrobial component for formation of new antimicrobial materials.Linvention concerne une composition antimicrobienne polymère, un procédé de production de celle-ci et des utilisations de celle-ci. Cette composition dionomère comprend un composé polymère fonctionnel damine qui est mis à réagir avec un halogénure dargent, éventuellement en présence dun composant stabilisant tel quune matière organique portant un groupe fonctionnel sulfonamide. La composition dionomère peut être obtenue par la mise en réaction de: (i) au moins une polyamine et un halogénure dargent, avec éventuellement au moins une matière de stabilisant organique ou (ii) dau moins une polyamine, au moins un sel dargent non halogénure ou un complexe dargent, un halogénure dhydrogène et/ou un sel dhalogénure de métal alcalin, et éventuellement au moins une matière de stabilisant organique. Cette composition dionomère peut être utilisée comme revêtement antimicrobien, apprêt antimicrobien, additif antimicrobien, et comme composant antimicrobien pour former de nouvelles matières antimicrobiennes.
