PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reconstruct high quality images using a photon counting type detector.SOLUTION: An X-ray CT apparatus includes a detector, a count result collection part, a count rate calculation part, a control part and an image reconstruction part. The detector includes a plurality of detection elements including a plurality of kinds of detection elements whose response characteristics to an X-ray dosage are different from one another, and outputs detection signals in response to incident of X-ray photons to each of the detection elements. The count result collection part collects results of the count of counting the number of X-ray photons from the detection signals output by the plurality of detection elements. The count rate calculation part calculates a count rate from the detection signals output by the plurality of detection elements. The control part selects detection elements on the basis of the count rate and the response characteristic of each of the plurality of detection elements.
