The present invention relates to the use of a plant residue comprising active components obtained from the trees, preferably the fruits, in the Sapotaceae family for agricultural and pest control purposes, as an ingredient in feed and as a component in agents for pest control and pesticides and/or as a component in products for pet animals and for gardening purposes. In particular, the plant residue contains triterpene saponins and tannins and is obtained from the nuts from the fruits of the shea tree ( Butyrospermum parkii ) .
