The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, alleviating, or treating obesity or metabolic diseases containing an essential oil extract derived from Cnidium officinale as an active component. More specifically, the essential oil extract derived from Cnidium officinale of the present invention exhibits effects of inhibiting fat accumulation of fat cells and controlling expression of proteins involved in differentiation of fat cells and regulation of fat metabolism, thereby being able to be usefully used for preventing, alleviating or treating metabolic diseases such as obesity and usefully used for reducing or preventing cellulite.본 발명은 천궁(Cnidii Rhizoma) 유래 정유(essential oil) 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 비만 또는 대사성 질환의 예방, 개선 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 구체적으로, 본 발명의 천궁 유래 정유 추출물은 지방세포의 지방 축적을 억제하고, 지방세포의 분화 및 지방의 대사 조절에 관여하는 단백질의 발현을 조절하는 효과를 나타냄으로써, 비만 등 대사성 질환의 예방, 개선 또는 치료에 유용하게 사용할 수 있고, 셀룰라이트 감소 또는 예방에 유용하게 사용할 수 있다.
