An aspect of embodiments of the invention relates to a removable airway support assembly for maintaining patency (the state of being open) of the oropharynx. The removable support assembly includes an oropharyngeal airway stent (hereinafter "stent") and a fixation member for securing the stent in place in the oropharynx.
