The aerosol-generating device defines a flow path from the air inlet to the inhalable media outlet. The device includes a container for holding a liquid； A wick for drawing liquid from the vessel into the flow path, and a heating element upstream of the wick to heat the incoming air from the air inlet to produce a flow of heated air in the flow path in use. The device is arranged such that a flow of heated air generated in use passes over the wick in use to volatilize the liquid, thereby generating a flow of aerosol in the flow path in use. The device includes a receiving portion in the flow path downstream of the wick to accommodate elements for changing the properties of the flow of the aerosol.
