1. A method of creating a treatment plan for a particular patient for the photodynamic therapy of prostate cancer includes: setting the total length of the irradiating fiber used for treatment based on the planned treatment volume (PTV) and a predetermined therapeutically effective threshold of light density index (LDI). 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the total length of the irradiating fiber is calculated as the product of the PTV and the predetermined therapeutically effective threshold of the light density index or their scalar multiple. The method of claim 2, wherein the therapeutically effective LDI threshold is predetermined from retrospective data obtained using the same photosensitizing agent. The method of claim 3, wherein the therapeutically effective LDI threshold is predetermined from retrospective data obtained using the same photosensitizing agent administered at the same systemic dose. The method according to claim 4, wherein the therapeutically effective LDI threshold is predetermined from retrospective data obtained using the same photosensitizing agent administered at the same systemic dose and at the same wavelength of the applied light.
