PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a notification device and a notification method for preventing a user from forgetting to take his/her medication by detecting medication with sound created by opening a container package of the medication without causing the detection of the medication to depend on the opening/closing of a lid of a medication case.SOLUTION: A characteristic sound of opening a container package is inputted to microcomputer 13 by causing a sound electric converter 11 to convert the sound into electricity. A microcontroller performs a notification output because the user forgets to take his/her medication in the case that the characteristic sound of opening the container package of the medication is not detected even though a scheduled time due to medication schedule time zone information 12 elapses.
