A return pad contact detection system is provided. The return pad contactdetection system includes two or more signal sources each generating anoperatingcurrent to a corresponding pair of pairs of patient return pads. The operatingcurrent isconducted through conductors to the pairs of patient return pads. Two or moreresonantcircuits are provided and correspond to the pair of patient return pads andcorresponding signal sources. Each of the resonant circuits is responsive totheoperating current for producing a signal that is a function of the impedancebetween thetwo corresponding patient return pads. The two resonant circuits are tuned todifferentfrequencies and tuned to substantially the same frequency as the correspondingsignalsource to minimize measurement interaction between the pairs of patient returnpadswhen the operating currents are simultaneously applied to the correspondingpairs ofpatient return pads.
