A foldable leg rest has a seat 10 having a front end, a first folding frame 20 pivotally connected to opposite sides of the front end of the seat and a first stage drive mechanism (50, Fig 3) comprising of two angle adjusters 51, two first stage DC motors 52 and a drive rod 53. Each angle adjuster is disposed between one of the opposite sides of the front end of the seat and one of the opposite sides of a rear end of the first folding frame, and is connected to the other angle adjustor through the drive rod. Each adjustor comprises of a retaining member (511, Fig 4) having a fixed part (5111, Fig 4) attached to the seat and a mounting plate (5112, Fig 4) with an angle adjustment plate (512, Fig 4) mounted upon it. A pivot member (513, Fig 4) is secured to the angle adjustment plate and the bottom of the first folding frame. In use, the first stage DC motors, one disposed on either side of the front end of the seat, are actuated to drive the drive rod (and thus the angle adjustment plates and pivot members) such that the first folding frame is pivoted relative to the seat. A second folding frame 30 may be pivotally connected to two opposite sides of a front end of the first folding frame and can be driven by a second stage DC motor (61, Fig 3) and a pair of gearings (62, Fig 3), to rotate/pivot relative to the first folding frame. In this instance, a footrest 40 may be pivotally connected to the second folding frame and driven by a third stage drive mechanism (70, Fig 3) and transmission assembly (72, Fig 3) to rotate/pivot the footrest relative to the second folding frame.
