The invention discloses an anti-bacterial formulation comprising lemongrass oil, azithromycin, a surfactant and an aqueous solution of a base, wherein the above agents were mixed to form an emulsion. The resultant emulsion is a thermostable micro particle sized emulsion. The azithromycin solubilized lemongrass oil micro emulsion was found to be effective against bacterial cultures of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa .
