A device for air decontamination comprising a housing 10 having an air inlet 14 and air outlet 16 and an air flow passage 12 therebetween, the housing including at least one non-thermal plasma cell 22 located downstream of the air inlet; wherein the non-thermal plasma cell is sized and positioned relative to the internal dimensions of the housing such that a portion of the air entering the housing from the air inlet is adapted to pass through and across the non-thermal plasma cell and a portion of air entering the housing from the air inlet is adapted to pass outside of the external surface of the non-thermal plasma cell. Preferably the device further comprises an ultraviolet (UV) radiation emitting device 24, an ozone catalysing device 26, a hydrocarbon delivery device 52 an air stream generator 20 and an air turbulence creating device 60. The device may also comprise a shield extending in the direction of the air flow passage and spaced from and facing the non-thermal plasma cell, such that a portion of air entering the housing is adapted to pass outside the external surface of the shield and be shielded from the electromagnetic emissions from the non-thermal plasma cell.
