Immunogenic composition containing one or more respiratory syncytial virus F polypeptides (RSV F), in which amino acids 100-150 are replaced by the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 9, SEQ ID NO: 12, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 3 : 4, SEQ ID NO: 5, SEQ ID NO: 6, SEQ ID NO: 7; SEQ ID NO: 8, SEQ ID NO: 10, SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO: 13, SEQ ID NO: 91, or SEQ ID NO: 92.2. The immunogenic composition of claim 1, wherein amino acids 100-150 of the indicated RSV F are replaced by the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 12.3. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1, where amino acids 100-150 of the indicated F RSV are replaced by the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 9, SEQ ID NO: 3, SEQ ID NO: 4, SEQ ID NO: 5, SEQ ID NO: 6, SEQ ID NO: 7; SEQ ID NO: 8, SEQ ID NO: 10, SEQ ID NO: 11, SEQ ID NO: 13 or SEQ ID NO: 92.4. The immunogenic composition of claim 1, wherein the RSV F is in the form of a monomer, trimer, or any combination thereof. The immunogenic composition of claim 3, wherein the F RSV is a monomer, trimer, rosette-like structure, or any combination thereof. The immunogenic composition according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein said RSV F contains amino acids 23-99 and 151-524 of SEQ ID NO: 1 or SEQ ID NO: 2.7. The immunogenic composition of claim 1, further comprising an adjuvant. The immunogenic composition of claim 7, wherein the adjuvant is selected from the group consisting of an aluminum salt, a squalene-in-water emulsion, a benzonaphthyridine compound, a phospholipid compound, a low molecular weight immunostimulant, and a combination of any two or more of any of the foregoing.
