PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide arginase enzyme inhibitors for treating or diagnosing conditions characterized either by abnormally high arginase activity or abnormally low nitric oxide levels in a mammal.SOLUTION: An inhibitor comprises a composition comprising an alpha-amino acid compound, or a derivative thereof, or a salt thereof, wherein a first substituent and a second substituent are linked to the alpha-carbon of the compound. The first substituent comprises a moiety selected from the group consisting of a boronic acid and N-hydroxy guanidine. The second substituent comprises a proximal nitrogen atom, wherein: the proximal nitrogen is basic； and the proximal nitrogen is separated from the alpha-carbon by a chain of two, three or four carbons, with the proviso that the compound is not 2-amino-6-borono-2-(3-(piperazin-1-yl)propyl)hexanoic acid, 2-(3-(4-acetylpiperazin- 1-yl)propyl)-2-amino-6-boronohexanoic acid, and the like.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4【課題】哺乳動物における異常に高いアルギナーゼ活性又は異常に低い酸化窒素レベルのいずれかによって特徴付けられる状態を処置又は診断するための、アルギナーゼ酵素阻害剤の提供。【解決手段】アルファアミノ酸化合物、又はその誘導体、もしくはその塩を含む組成物であって、第一の置換基及び第二の置換基が化合物のアルファ炭素に連結している組成物を含む。第一の置換基は、ボロン酸およびN-ヒドロキシグアニジンからなる群より選択される部分を含む。第二の置換基は、近位窒素原子を含み、ここで近位窒素は塩基性であり、さらに近位窒素はアルファ炭素から炭素2、3又は4個の鎖で隔てられており、但し化合物が2-アミノ-6-ボロノ-2-(3-(ピペラジン-1-イル)プロピル)ヘキサン酸、2-(3-(4-アセチルピペラジン-1-イル)プロピル)-2-アミノ-6-ボロノヘキサン酸等ではないことを条件とする。【選択図】図４
