The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for processing ultrasound images for obtaining a non-uniform scatterer image, which remove a side lobe signal from an ultrasound signal received through an array transducer, and identify the distribution of a non-uniform scatterer by binarizing each pixel in the scatterer image from which side lobes have been removed through comparison with a critical value, thereby contributing to accurate diagnosis of lesion groups. The apparatus according to the present invention comprises: the array transducer for receiving, through individual receiving elements, ultrasound signals reflected by a scatterer in human tissue； an ultrasound focusing unit for delaying focus to chronologically align the signals received from each of the receiving elements on the array transducer； an image processing unit for removing side lobes from a summation signal, which is a product of adding all of the individual signals that have been focus-delayed by the ultrasound focusing unit, and synthesizing a scatterer image from which the side lobes have been removed； a binarizing unit for comparing, with the critical value, the image brightness of each pixel in the scatterer image from which the side lobes have been removed by the image processing unit； and a scatter image display unit for displaying the scatterer image which has been binarized by the binarizing unit.본 발명은 어레이 트랜스듀서를 통하여 수신된 초음파 신호에서 부엽 신호를 제거하고, 부엽이 제거된 산란체 영상의 각 픽셀에 대하여 임계값과 비교하여 이치화하는 과정을 통하여 불균일 산란체의 분포를 파악함으로써 정확한 병변 진단에 기여할 수 있는 불균일 산란체 영상 획득을 위한 초음파 영상 처리장치 및 방법에 관한 것이다.본 발명은 인체 조직의 산란체에서 반사된 초음파 신호를 각각의 수신소자에서 수신하는 어레이 트랜스듀서, 어레이 트랜스듀서 각각의 수신소자에 수신된 신호를 시간적으로 정렬하기 위하여 집속 지연하는 초음파 집속부, 초음파 집속부에서 집속 지연된 각각의 신호를 합산한 합산 신호에서 부엽을 제거하고 부엽이 제거된 산란체 영상을 합성하는 영상 처리부, 영상 처리부에서 부엽이 제거된 산란체 영상의 각 픽셀에 대하여 영상 밝기와 임계값을 비교하여 이치화하는 이치화부, 및 이치화부에 의해 이치화된 산란체 영상을 표시하는 산란체 영상 표시부를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
