The housing accommodates five series connected nickel-cadmium batteries (18), Fig. 2 (not shown), 18a and is provided with contacts (20) which engage contacts (22), Fig. 5 (not shown) in the recess to supply power to an electric motor 34. The housing 12, which is made of plastics, forms part of the handle of the shears and is locked in position by a knob 26. A charger plug connection 30 is provided and the power supply 10 may be connected to the equipment such as a spraying device or a motor driven barbecue.
