PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit, in which the response of an observation mode change is good and work performance is good, and an endoscope system which possesses the light source unit.
SOLUTION: The light source unit comprises: a wavelength alteration section 30, which has a xenon lamp 21 illuminating an observation section 9 imaged by a CCD16 and two or more filters A1-A6 and B1-B6 for wavelength alteration and forms illuminating light by arranging at least one filter chosen from the two or more filters on a beam 10 outgone by the xenon lamp 21 and a luminous volume control section 27, which controls the luminous volume of the illuminating light based on the imaging picture information of the CCD16, and while the wavelength alteration section 30 operates wavelength alteration, the luminous volume control section 27 suspends the control of the luminous volume. Moreover, in an endoscope system 1, a CCD is the CCD16 of the endoscope and the light source unit 6 is provided.
