An applicator having a substantially hollow body for accommodating an ampouleof solution is disclosed. The hollow body comprises an open proximal end forreceiving the ampoule and an open distal end having a flange to accept anapplicator pad for applying the solution. A back plug having a lever mechanismis inserted into the open proximal end of the applicator to activate theapplicator and seal the applicator after activation. Advancement of the backplug lever mechanism into the hollow body pivots the body of the ampoule tobreak the neck, activating the applicator. The back plug seals the proximalend after activation of the applicator.
