A system and method for enabling an inexperienced surgeon, i.e., a surgeon with fewer replacement procedures to perform than a more experienced surgeon performing a greater number of procedures, is provided to inexperienced surgeon patients. On the other hand, it provides the possibility of a favorable result comparable to that of a favorable result for a more experienced surgeon's patient. The systems and methods include improving the positioning of a prosthesis, particularly a prosthesis having a preferred orientation with respect to a patient's reference coordinate system.
