The present invention relates to a active substance-containing film for application in the oral cavity or for transmucosal application, said film having an improved chemical stability, characterized in that the film has a peroxide number of maximally 40, and the film comprises a polymer matrix which contains at least one polymer, at least one active substance, at least one antioxidant and optionally one or more additives: wherein said polymer(s) is/are selected from the group consisting of cellulose ethers, polyvinyl alcohols, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene oxide polymers, polyurethane, polyacrylic acid, polyacrylates, polymethacrylates, alginates, pectins, gelatine, starch, natural rubbers, water-soluble polysaccharides and proteins and wherein the polymer portion amounts to 10 to 95%-wt., relative to the total weight of the film and wherein said antioxidant(s) is/are selected from the group consisting of ascorbic acid, ascorbylpalmitate, sodium sulfite, sodium disulfite, sodium metabisulfite, tocopherols (vitamin E), tocopherol acetate, thioglycerol, thioglycol acid, vitamin A, propyl gallate, octyl gallate, butylhydroxyanisol and butylhydroxytoluene and wherein the concentration of the antioxidant(s) is 0.001 to 5%-wt. and wherein said additive(s) is/are selected from the group consisting of plasticizers, dyes and pigments, degradation enhancers, wetting agents, absorption-enhancing or permeation-enhancing substances, pH regulators, fillers, flavouring substances, aromatic substances and sweeteners and wherein the concentration of the additive(s) is 0 to 50%-wt. and wherein the thickness of said film is in the range of 0.01 to 5 mm.
