The present invention is concerned with a mouth cleaning device comprising a head portion (1) comprising cleaning elements (6) for cleaning teeth and a tongue cleaning electrode (4, 9, 15, 22) enabling a current flow into a users tongue in a use state, wherein the cleaning elements (6) and the tongue cleaning electrode (4, 9, 15, 22) are essentially arranged on opposing sides of the head portion, a handle portion (21) comprising a contact electrode (35), wherein the contact electrode (35) of the handle portion (21) enables a current flow into a users hand in a use state, and an energy source, wherein the energy source is electrically coupled to the contact electrode (35) and to the tongue cleaning electrode (4, 9, 15, 22) such that in operation a current may flow from the contact electrode (35) through a users body to the tongue cleaning electrode (4, 9, 15, 22). The invention is also concerned with a respective head portion. The proposed mouth cleaning device provides for an improved cleaning of the oral cavity as it also provides for specific tongue cleaning capabilities.
