PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for estimation of a drivers condition, capable of estimating the drivers condition in a short period of time.
SOLUTION: The device includes: a beat interval detection means 16 for detecting the beat interval of the heart of a driver an event detection means 1 for detecting a change in the driving conditions generated during the driving of a vehicle or an event related to the change a learning means 17 for, when the same event occurs, determining the presence of a change in the beat interval, and for learning the change rate of the beat interval with respect to the occurrence frequency of the event a decision criterion specification means 18 for specifying the event whose change rate of the beat interval is larger than a prescribed rate as a drivers condition decision criterion and a driver condition estimation means 19 for, when the event specified as the drivers condition decision criterion occurs, estimating the drivers condition based on the presence of the change in the beat interval.
