Anemia continues to be a major public health problem among may age groups, considerably more prevalent in developing countries. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) occurs when iron deficiency is sufficiently severe to reduce eryththropoiesis, the most frequent chronic anemia. In adults, iron deficiency is commonly associated with poor erythrocyte production, consequently amounting to anemia, significant gastrointestinal tract abnormalities, and may develop epithelial changes like angular stomatitis and glossitis with painful swelling of the tongue. Hence, we had formulated a unique combination, comprising a novel iron preparation, Iron Polymaltose Complex (IPC) with Folic Acid and Ascorbic Acid that we believe shall greatly do well to patients. IPC in some clinical studies showed equal bioavailability as ferrous sulfate and showed more tolerable side effects. Ascorbic acid, in this preparation, will increase the utilization of IPC during the treatment of anemia. Incorporating Folic Acid in the preparation also addresses another common micronutrient deficiency which falls second to iron.
