Apparatus and method for measurement, control, or both of a thermodilution infusion stream to calculate transpulmonary thermodilution parameters. The injectate delivery system comprises a syringe for holding a fluid injectate, and a conduit configured to be connected at one end to the catheter. A flow measurement device is inserted into the conduit to generate a signal to determine the flow rate of fluid from the syringe to the catheter. The processor receives signals from the flow measurement device and calculates an infusate volume to be used as an input to calculate transpulmonary thermal dilution parameters such as cardiac output. A GUI is provided to indicate to the user if the infusate flow rate is too high or too low.
