A pressure cuff auto detection and inflation system, such as for treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) comprises an air compressor 10 in communication with a pressurised air distributor 22 having a plurality of outlets 14 controlled by solenoid operated valves 13, one or more of the outlets 14 being in communication with an air inlet 31of one type of pressure cuff 30selected from a group of different cuffs 20,30,40 (Figs 1-3), each cuff having a different air inlet configuration (21,31,41). Distributor outlets 14 that are not connected to cuff inlets 31 are blocked. A PCB control 10a opens solenoid operated valves 13 in turn and the rate of pressure rise through each of the distributor outlets 14 is monitored using a pressure transducer 12 and used to determine whether or not a cuff inlet 31 is attached to each of the outlets 14 and therefore which of the cuffs is attached according to its inlet configuration. Once determined, the system parameters are automatically set for the inflation cycle time and pressure of that particular cuff.
