A dry shampoo composition is provided for cleaning hair comprising 4 to 35% baking soda and 65 to 96% starch. The constituent proportions are expressed in terms of proportions by weight relative to the total weight of the composition. Optionally the composition may also contain a conditioning agent and/or a fragrance. The composition is primarily intended for quickly cleansing a childs hair when wet washing is neither desirable nor appropriate, or may be used when a child or young person has sensitive skin or a sensitive scalp.
