PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To acquire information on blood vessel depth and information on oxygen saturation at the same time.
SOLUTION: A body cavity is irradiated with first to third narrowband light of different wavelength ranges. At least one of these narrowband light has a central wavelength of 450 nm or less. Imaging is performed every irradiation of each light to obtain first to third narrowband image data. A blood vessel region including a blood vessel is specified from the first to third narrowband image data. In regard to pixels in the blood vessel region, blood vessel depth information U* and oxygen saturation information V* corresponding to a first luminance ratio S1*/S3* between the first and third narrowband image data and a second luminance ratio S2*/S3* between second and third narrowband image data are obtained from the correlation obtained beforehand by an experiment. A blood vessel depth image and an oxygen saturation image are generated based on the blood vessel depth information and oxygen saturation information on all the pixels in a blood vessel region.
