The present invention relates to a composition containing dihydroferulic acid for the prevention or treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. Dihydroferulic acid according to the present invention significantly controls the size of cerebral infarction caused by cerebrovascular diseases, increases the expression degree of antioxidant genes or neuromodulators, and controls the apoptosis around the cerebral cortex or corpus striatum of a brain, thereby showing prevention and treatment effects of cerebrovascular diseases, and being used as a brain protectant treating brain damage.본 발명은 디하이드로페룰산을 유효성분으로 포함하는 뇌혈관질환의 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 디하이드로페룰산은 뇌혈관질환으로 인해 나타나는 뇌경색의 크기가 유의적으로 억제되며, 항산화 유전자 또는 신경조절물질의 발현정도를 증가시키고, 뇌의 대뇌피질 또는 선조체 부위의 세포사멸을 억제하여 뇌혈관질환에 대한 예방 및 치료효과를 나타내므로 뇌손상을 치료하는 뇌보호제로서 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.
