PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for heightening the iodine content in a plant body, and to provide a highly iodine-containing plant created by the method.SOLUTION: The method for creating the highly iodine-containing plant includes destroying the function of a gene encoding a polypeptide having methyl transferase activities using an iodide ion as a substrate.
