The method for the catheterization of the subclavian vein with atraumatic needle provides for the used of the needle with the concentric canal 8-10 cm in length, the tip, and the sharp bevel-edged end. The puncture site is selected at 1.0-1.5 cm below the clavicle at the border between internal and middle thirds. The infiltrative tissue anesthesia is provided with novocaine. The needle is passed below the clavicle over the first rib towards the sternum-clavicular joint. The novocaine solution is injected along the needle passage at a depth of 3.0-6.0 cm, the resistance of fascia is felt, the plunger of the syringe is pulled, the blood in the syringe indicated that the needle is within the vein. Then the syringe is detached closing the tip with the finger. Into the needle lumen, the guide is inserted to half of length, the needle is then removed, and the catheter is put onto the guide and inserted via the soft tissues into the lumen of the vein by "screwing" movements. The guide is removed, the reverse blood flow from catheter is ascertained with syringe, the system for infusion therapy is connected, the catheter is secured to the skin with sutures, and the aseptic dressing is applied.
