According to the present invention, a skin whitening composition containing an extract of Hydrangea macrophylla as an active ingredient: is safe to skin； has an excellent effect of inhibiting tyrosinase activity； and thus can be advantageously used for a skin external for whitening skin. The extract of Hydrangea macrophylla is produced by extracting at least one selected from a group constituted by a stem, a leaf, and a flower of Hydrangea macrophylla with one or more solvents selected from a group constituted by anhydrous and hydrous alcohol having 1-4 carbon atoms, acetone, butylene glycol, ethyl acetate, diethyl acetate, diethyl ether, benzene, chloroform and hexane.본 발명의 수국 추출물을 유효성분으로 함유하는 피부 미백용 조성물은 피부에 대한 안전성을 가지며 티로시나제 활성 억제 효과가 우수하여 미백을 목적으로 하는 피부 외용제에 유용하게 적용될 수 있다.
