Manganese compositions effective in reducing Shiga toxin-induced toxicity in mammals infected with Shiga toxin-producing bacteria such as E. coli O157:H7 are described. Manganese compositions described herein can be combined with antibiotic therapy as manganese can block the toxic effects of Shiga toxin released from dying bacteria.Linvention concerne des compositions de manganèse efficaces pour réduire la toxicité induite par la Shiga toxine chez des mammifères infectés par des bactéries produisant la Shiga toxine, telle que E. coli O157:H7.
