PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To povide a method for determining or approximating a patient's dairy loss of iron.SOLUTION: An apparatus 9 includes a controller 11 for performing the method. The apparatus is connected to an external database 13 including a measurement result and required all data. The apparatus 9 may have means 14 for inputting data. Such data may be information on a cumulative dose of functional iron such as a mass, volume, and concentration of Hb and/or information on a cumulative dose of nonfunctional iron such as ferritin. Such data input to the apparatus 9 further includes information on a patient's blood amount or its approximation.
