PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling vehicle and a method for controlling the traveling vehicle which enables an evacuation from an escalator even when an error occurs in one detection means without additionally providing a sensor dedicated to a detection of a timing of evacuation from the escalator.SOLUTION: When a vehicle is board on an escalator, a control unit 100 performs an evacuation judgement by an external sensor 4. The control unit 100 performs an evacuation judgement by a front-wheel rotation sensor 6. The control unit 100 performs an evacuation judgement by an inclination detection part 118.
