A surgical instrument is disclosed, the instrument including: a handleassembly； a jawassembly including a staple cartridge containing a plurality of staples and ananvil to form theplurality of staples upon firing； a lockout mechanism configured to preventreuse of the jawassembly； a drive assembly at least partially located within the handle andconnected to the jawassembly； a motor operatively coupled to the drive assembly； and a controlleroperativelycoupled to the motor, the controller configured to control supply ofelectrical current to the motorand to monitor a current draw of the motor, wherein the controller is furtherconfigured toterminate the supply of electrical current to the motor in response to a dropin the current draw.
