Provided are compositions and methods for potentiating the effect of antibiotics. The compositions comprise a non-covalent complex of alpha-lactalbumin and fatty acid. The fatty acids are cis, unsaturated, C14 to C20 fatty acids. The complex and antibiotic can be administered to an individual together or separately.
