Provided are a computed tomographic apparatus that provides a material image of an object to a user to receive a scanning region and a method of controlling the same. The computed tomographic apparatus according to an embodiment includes: an X-ray scanning unit configured to divide X-rays that have penetrated an object by multiple energy bands and capture scout images to set scanning regions of the object； an image processing unit configured to generate substance images of a plurality of substances of the object from the scout images acquired by scanning； a display configured to display at least one of the substance images； and an input unit configured to receive a scanning region for the displayed substance image.대상체의 물질 영상을 사용자에게 제공하여 촬영영역을 입력받는 컴퓨터 단층 촬영장치 및 그 제어방법을 제공한다.컴퓨터 단층 촬영장치의 일 실시예에 따르면, 대상체를 투과한 엑스선을 복수의 에너지 대역에 따라 분류하여, 상기 대상체의 촬영영역을 설정하기 위한 스카우트 영상(Scout Image)을 촬영하는 엑스선 촬영부； 촬영에 의해 획득된 스카우트 영상으로부터 대상체를 구성하는 복수의 물질 각각의 영상을 생성하는 영상처리부； 복수의 물질 영상 중 적어도 하나를 표시하는 디스플레이； 및 표시된 물질 영상에 대하여 촬영영역을 입력받는 입력부； 를 포함할 수 있다.
