A fingerprint recognition sensor according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a backlight unit which is placed on one side of a substrate, and includes a base material layer including a transparent material and a light source irradiating light into a base material layer from one side of the base material layer, wherein the light of which an incidence angle for a surface facing the substrate in the base material layer is bigger than a critical angle penetrates towards the substrate a cover layer which is spaced apart from the substrate and faces the other side of the substrate a plurality of sensor pixels which are defined by a plurality of scan lines on the other side of the substrate and a plurality of data read out lines, and are placed between the substrate and the cover layer and a plurality of photo sensors which are placed in the every sensor pixel, and detect light which is totally reflected by a surface being in contact with a fingerprint of a user in the cover layer by penetrating towards the substrate from the base material layer. Therefore, light efficiency is improved by using all the light having at least a certain angle of incidence.본 발명의 한 실시예에 따른 지문 인식 센서는, 기판의 일면에 위치하고, 투명한 물질을 포함하는 기재층 및 기재층의 일측면에서 기재층의 내부로 광을 조사하는 광원을 포함하고, 조사된 광 중 기재층에서 기판과 마주하는 면에 대한 입사각이 임계각보다 큰 광이 기판 방향으로 투과되는 백라이트 유닛, 기판과 이격되고 기판의 타면에 대향하는 커버층, 기판의 타면 상의 다수의 주사 라인과 다수의 데이터 리드 아웃 라인에 의하여 정의되고, 기판과 커버층 사이에 위치하는 다수의 센서 화소, 그리고 각 센서 화소마다 위치하고, 기재층에서 기판 방향으로 투과되어 커버층에서 사용자의 지문과 접촉되는 면에 전반사되는 광을 감지하는 다수의 포토 센서를 포함한다.
