PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: methods for producing high-purity molindone and a composition containing the compound.SOLUTION: This invention relates to methods of producing molindone (SUMO-3), comprising the steps of: forming formyl SUMO-2 by the reaction of SUMO-2 and ethyl formate forming enamine of the formyl SUMO-2 by the reaction of the formyl SUMO-2 and morpholine and reducing the enamine to form molindone (SUMO-3).
