587416 A apparatus 20 for use in stripping irregular material from a line 3,4 during relative movement between the apparatus 20 and line 3,4 , the apparatus 20 including a material guide, stripping mechanism and line guide, the material guide being configured to guide the irregular material on the line 3,4 into engagement with the stripping mechanism during the relative movement, the material guide including first and second driven material guide elements 50a, 50b respectively rotatable about first and second material guide rotation axes, the stripping mechanism including first and second driven stripping elements respectively rotatable about first and second stripping element rotation axes, and the line guide including first and second line guide elements 30a, 30b. The first line guide element 30a, first stripping element 41a and first material guide element 50a collectively form a first stripping assembly and the second line guide element 30b, second stripping element 41b and second material guide element 50b collectively form a second stripping assembly. The line 3, 4 pass between the stripping assemblies during the stripping. The stripping assemblies are orientated during the stripping such that the first material guide rotation axis, first line guide element 30a and the first stripping element rotation axis are on a first lateral side of the line 3, 4 and the second material guide rotation axis, second line guide element 30b and the second stripping element rotation axis are on a second lateral side of the line 3, 4.
