An apron extends rearward from the cutter bar to receive the crop to that the crop can be conveyed by an auger transversely along the apron. A reciprocally movable skirt extends across the apron between the cutter bar and the conveyor whereby the skirt is carried by a skirt support to space the skirt away from the apron.
