The present disclosure is directed to methods and apparatus for harvesting energy from performance of CPR, and utilizing that energy for various purposes. In some embodiments, a system may include: a portable component (102) that is adapted for placement on an outer surface of a patients body such that chest compressions applied during performance of CPR on the patient causes corresponding motion of the portable component an electrical generator (104) coupled to the portable component and adapted to convert the motion of the portable component into electrical energy motion sensor(s) (108) adapted to detect aspect(s) of the motion of the portable component and a memory component (112) communicatively coupled with the motion sensor(s), wherein the memory component is adapted to be powered by at least some of the electrical energy to at least temporarily store data point(s) associated with the aspect(s) of the motion of the portable component.
