The present invention relates to a medical device for causing the hemostasis of a blood vessel for use through an endoscope, said medical device comprising a clip (2101), the clip (2101) having at least two clip legs, a control wire (2104), a sheath (2103) enclosing the control wire (2104), an outer sleeve (2102) that is deployable from the sheath (2103), a retainer (2108), the retainer (2108) being releasably coupled to the outer sleeve (2102), a handle coupled to the sheath (2103), and an actuator coupled to the control wire (2104), the control wire (2104) engageable by the actuator to open the at least two clip legs and to close the at least two clip legs, and a retainer release arrangement, the retainer release arrangement able to engage the retainer (2108) to uncouple the retainer (2108) from the outer sleeve (2102).
