For a compound to be used as an effective anti-cancer drug, the compound should least affect the non-cancerous cells. It was observed that in presence of the compound, SH-3, cell proliferation was inhibited and IC50 at 30M was observed. SH-3 was shown to arrest the cells at S phase of the cell cycle long with increasing level of ROS and DNA damage. Present study indicates that SH-3 also reduces the total as well as phosphorylated form of HSP27, a heath shock protein involved in cell survival. On the other hand, the non- cancerous fibroblast cells were unaffected at these concentrations. This study shows that SH-3 is causing cell arrest and leads to cell death of the cancerous cells without affecting the non-cancerous cells. The compound is targeting multiple pathways, which would impede the development of resistance towards this compound. Hence, compound SH-3 is an excellent potential chemotherapeutic molecule for breast cancer.
