A clip device delivery apparatus for hemostasis has an introducer tube such asan endoscope or sheath having a distal end portion 65 on a distal insertion section60 and working channel receiving an operating wire detachably securing a clipdevice 111 comprising tissue engaging arms 127 and a sliding ring for closingthe arms. A protective cap 210 having a tube mounting section 220 and a distal section230 having a receiving chamber 232 define a passageway 240 therebetween, themounting section being mounted to the introducer tube distal end portion andthe distal section receiving tissue and clip arms to close about tissue. The operatingwire and clip device are inserted within the working channel. Methods of graspingtissue are provided using the introducer tube introduced endoscopically intoa patient, tissue suctioned and clip arms deployed into tissue receiving chamber,sliding ring moved distally to close the clip arms about the tissue, and the clipdetached from the operating wire.
