A combination probe for localizing, recording and operatively stimulating a target tissue, said probe comprising an essentially tube shaped outer housing accommodating a centred tube shaped inner portion for receiving an elongated conducting element serving as an electrode, and at least one optical fibre pair arranged in close proximity to the tube shaped inner portion, wherein one of the fibre pairs is operatively connected to a laser source, and the other fibre of the fibre pair is connected to a detector unit,for intra cerebral guidance during functional neurosurgery.
