An optical scanning type observation apparatus includes: a light source portion configured to supply illuminating light a light guiding portion configured to guide the illuminating light to emit the illuminating light from an emission end portion an actuator portion configured to swing the emission end portion to cause an illuminating light irradiation position to be displaced a control portion configured to perform control for causing the emission end portion to be swung so that predetermined scan routes are drawn an image generating portion configured to sequentially generate and output an image corresponding to one frame, corresponding to a latest scan route among the predetermined scan routes a motion detecting portion configured to sequentially calculate an amount of motion between images of different frames and an image outputting portion configured to sequentially output images corresponding to a plurality of different scan routes, among the predetermined scan routes, when the amount of motion exceeds a predetermined threshold, and continuously output images corresponding to a same scan route among the predetermined scan routes when the amount of motion is equal to or below the predetermined threshold.
