A remote control assembly is disclosed that includes an operator control system and a plurality of manipulators configured to control movement of a medical instrument in a surgical environment. The manipulator is controlled remotely by an operator control system. The system is further configured to display an image of the surgical environment view, determine relevant information about the manipulator and operator control system, and display a badge near the medical instrument in the surgical environment view image.
