The present invention provides for the use of a composition containing ascorbates and at least one flavonoid and at least one flavonol for rebuilding cellular and systemic ascorbate pools in a mammal in need thereof. The invention also provides for a daily dose regimen comprising potassium ascorbate, calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate, zinc ascorbate, flavonols, and flavonoids for rebuilding cellular and systemic ascorbate pools in a mammal in need thereof. The invention further relates to a composition of matter comprising potassium ascorbate, calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate, zinc ascorbate, flavonols, and flavonoids. The invention also relates to the use of a daily dose of flavonol(s) and flavonoid(s) for relieving pain associated trauma to the musculoskeletal system.
