An orbital tissue retractor for use in surgery in the region of the eyeball hole. An orbital tissue retractor includes an orbital tissue retractor body and a handle extending therefrom for manipulation of the tissue retractor body by a surgeon. The tissue retractor body includes a groove forming portion 16 that defines a groove 17. The groove formation 16 is a pair of spaced apart side wall sections 24.. That define a concave curved eye contact formation 26.2 that conforms to the anatomical curvature of the eye for contact with the eye N. 2 The tissue retractor body has an open proximal end 22 and an open distal end 20. The tissue retractor body tapers from the proximal end to the distal end, and a portion of the distal end groove formation is curved to house and support the optic nerve therein.
